Moving Parts

In the city of the future you are always where you want to be. Recent conceptual studies carried out by major automobile and design companies are turning cars into mobile spaces for fitness, living and work independent of their function as transportation. Individual transport is becoming a manner of organizing the right space at the right time and the right place, is thus becoming a logistical challenge. Needs in terms of mobility must be recognized and anticipated in order to satisfy future demand as soon as it emerges. Bernd Hopfengärtner will present a speculative vision of the future that extrapolates this logistic model of urbanity and derives from it the need for a city that is entirely in motion. All public and private institutions, residential houses, public swimming pools and skate parks continually predict the mobility desires of their residents, optimizing their relative positions in accordance with current and probable demand.

Bernd Hopfengärtner is designer and futurologist. He sees design as an interdisciplinary communication form between the sciences, culture and everyday life. He is now preparing a conference in Berlin on new forms of future research in collaboration with the Foresight Teams of Evonik Industries and Deutsche Bahn.
