Logistics Networks

Logistics takes place in networks. Some of these, such as street and communication networks or flights operated by airlines, are physical. But there are also organizational networks. These include so-called supply chains involving distributors, producers, service providers, retailers and consumers, in which business models and power structures play a decisive role. Organizational networks are subject to continual development, driven by technology and economic and societal changes. Where in the network is the high-bay warehouse of the Finsterwalder company located? Taking the functional and historical position of a distribution centre as a point of departure, the development of logistics in the distribution of consumer goods within Germany since the 1960s will be explained.
