This work of docu-fiction examines a series of locations in Ghana that have to do with contemporary and historical production and exploitation, yielding a narrative that questions whether global circulation can be turned against itself in an unexpected manner. Henderson describes and mystifies a new kind of “raw material extraction” in which workers dismantle old digital hardware from the West in order to recycle the metal parts that they contain. At the same time the devices are searched for personal information that can potentially be used for internet scams. This practice is mixed with the tradition of voodoo magic and is referred to as Sakawa.
