A multi-million dollar company in an unnamed Asian country produces leather fetish items for the West. The company’s activities are kept secret from the local population due to ideological and religious conflicts. The products are labelled “Made in USA”, the seamsters and seamstresses are told, for example, that they are producing body bags for the American military. Avalon combines documentary film material and interviews made in the factory with fictional scenes produced on a film set. The producers and end consumers engage in role play, the factory becomes a stage for those who know and (consciously) don’t, production becomes a performance.
